Sub Arachnoid Cyst- How serious is the health risk?

I was diagnosed with a sub arachnoid cyst about five years ago. I initially saw a consultant neurosurgeon four times a year. This has reduced over time to twice a year.

I experience no symptoms whatsoever and was told that unless it starts to affect my vision no action will be taken.

I have read quite a lot about arachnoid cysts, some of it quite disturbing. I have a somewhat large head with a slightly prominent forehead. What are the health risks
The cyst is large, about the size of a large tomato, and I do mean large .
----------

Large forehead and head have nothing to do with the cyst, unless you have a giantic one since before you were born and it pushed your skull out. But now, your skull's too tough to enlarge because of the cyst. If you don't have symptoms, it's probably a small one, and there's not much to be done for it except keep an eye on it. It may or may not grow bigger, slowly or fast. If it starts to affect your mental status, then the docs will know that it's a problem and will discuss options, possibly surgery.

Good luck!  (+ info)

Does anyone have any experience with arachnoid cyst on the brain?

My daughter was diagnosed from a CT scan that she has an arachnoid cyst on her brain, We've been referred to a neurologist that we will be seeing tomorrow. Does anyone have any experience with this? What can we expect? What are your symptoms?
----------

I'm 17 and i've been diagrnosed with an arachnoid cyst. My doctor referred me to a neurologist also, but who you really need to see is a neurosurgeon because it has to be removed. I found out from my doctor that I have to see the neurosergeon not a neurologist. You may want to call your doctor to check that.  (+ info)

I was just wondering if this is considered a minor condition?
Please comment on arachnoid cysts located in the brain. Not inquiring about ovarian or other..

Is an arachnoid cyst in the frontal lobe really that serious?

Is it not that big of a deal? If it is just a small one approximately 2inches long and half an inch wide in the left frontal lobe, isn't is minor really? Should anyone really worry about that little thing?
----------

Arachnoid cysts are classified according to there whereabouts and, each on has to be classified separately. And, yes, they can be "that serious"
These cysts are fluid filled and just under the second layer of membrane on the brain.

Your doctor would have to answer the seriousness of the cyst.  (+ info)

What is cisterna magna versus posterior fossa arachnoid cyst?

My son had a MRI done, the doctor said not to worry, but that he's sending him to Riley's in a month. I'd just like to know what the finding is in "mom" language? Thanks for any insight given.
----------

I don't know if there is "mom language." It all looks pretty much greek to me. I typed in cisterna magna posterior fossa arachnoid cyst in the yahoo search, and came up with several possibilities. Try it, or see if this helps at all:

I have a 7 month old that been diagnosed with a 4cm Arachnoid cyst. Has anyone had a similar experience?

She is a little delayed in her mile stones. e.g she cant sit up and the paedeatrician believes she is suffering from Hypotomia (weak muscles)
----------

Praise the Lord!! As we know He and He alone is able to deliver your baby from this disease. I have never heard of it before but I know that the Lord will undertake and heal this baby. It is not in His perfect will for any infant to suffer. He is a miracle working God who loves and keeps us safe from all harm. May I suggest a prayer cloth that has been anointed with oil and prayed over. Attach it to the blanket or something that will be close to the baby. I know it sounds superstitious but it truly works.

Q: Are prayer cloths in the Bible?

A: Yes. In Acts 19: 11-12 it says:
“And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.”

I will both pray for healing and will also request prayer at church. We worship a miracle working God who has purposed in His heart to deliver us from all harm. This is a testimony of His abundant love, mercy and grace and will lead others to Him.

What do for an Arachnoid Cyst?

I have an arachnoid cyst and i have two windows in both sides of my brain. I have been fine for 13 years now, but im starting to get really bad head aches that happen everyday. I don't know what to do and im going to the doctors soon. Do you think something is really wrong.
----------

You need a brain scan to see if the cysts are expanding. THe bad headaches may be something entirely different, like migraine, but you MUST make sure the arachnoid cysts are not getting larger.  (+ info)

I have been diagnosed with an arachnoid cyst on the right parieto-occipital region. Where is that exactly?

So I had my MRI yesterday and that's what the results came back as. Doc said that the cyst is on the right parieto-occipital region, which, of course, means nothing to me. It's measurements are 3.5 x 2.1 x 2.9 cm in diameter. So anyone who has had any experience along these lines and can help shed some light, I'd be more than appreciative! They are in the process of setting up my appointment with the neurosurgeon sometime this week or next. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
I appreciate CONSTRUCTIVE answers. Yes, I had this diagnosed. Yes, I also asked questions...I'm not an idiot. Sadly (and not in my favor today) my PCP had her nurse call me with the results and when I asked her, she didn't know...in fact the nurse was asking me questions about arachnoid cysts because she wasn't very familiar with them. I thought that maybe posing this question to this forum might answer the question that I have been unable to get answered yet.
----------

Hopefully I'll be able to make this diagnosis--which obviously wasn't explained very well by your doctor--a little clearer. The right parieto-occipital region of the brain is towards the back of the head, since that's where the occipital lobes are. This cyst is also somewhat lateral--towards the side--since there is also mention of the parietal lobe, which is directly in front of the occipital lobe.

An arachnoid cyst is a cyst of the middle membrane that surrounds the brain, which is called the arachnoid. It is one of three membranes of this type. The only treatment, as you probably already know, is surgery to remove it. Anything that grows inside your head that's not supposed to be there can cause increases in the pressure inside the brain, which is absolutely detrimental, so even if it's benign--which an arachnoid cyst IS--they want to remove it ASAP. Hope this helps...  (+ info)
