How can appendicitis quickly lead to death?

A 21-year-old man with severe appendicitis did not seek treatment in time and died a week after his abdominal pain and fever began. Explain why appendicitis can quickly lead to death.
----------

I don't know the exact details, but i do know that appendicitis causes your appendix to swell to an extraordinary size, causing it to eventually burst. The bursting will release poisons into your body, killing you. You have to have your appendix removed before it has a chance to burst.  (+ info)

What is the link between Appendicitis and Crohn's Disease?

Hi. I hear there is a link between Appendicitis and Crohn's Disease? How true is this? I suffered an appendicitis a week ago, and still recovering and am beginning to wonder if it could be Crohn's disease. My doc said the appendicitis cause inflammation of my cecum too. Any medical advice out there?
----------

Your appendix is part of the lymphatic system and crohn's disease is primarily due to parasites in the intestines due to dysbiosis. The human pathogens found in pasteurized milk from grain fed cows you buy in the store has about 2 - 3% of these human pathogens that survive the heat process. The altered calcium and damaged proteins from pasteurization along with the highly inflammatory milk as a result of feeding the cows grains is a big factor as well. 92% of all crohn's disease patients have this bacteria in their intestines.

If you look at the pathetic products manufacturers are making for crohn's patients, it is no wonder this is a chronic illness that requires a life time of drug use to treat the symptoms. Cleaning up the intestines, removing the parasites, getting on a good nutritional diet, and making the digestive system work like it should is the answer, not drugs or surgery.

An inflamed appendix is just that, it is an inflamed body part. Most likely it is inflamed for the same reasons crohn's disease is there, but is not the cause of crohn's. The lymphatic system, that the appendix is part of, can be clogged and bogged down with dead cancer cells, debris that the body is trying to eliminate. The lymphatic system has NO pump like the circulatory system does (the heart), so it relies on exercise and movement to help the lymph flow along. You can also take herbs like devil's claw or cat's claw to help lymphatic movement.

The medical advice for crohn's is not good and that should be obvious because they can never seem to help anyone get rid of the disease, just treat the symptoms.

good luck to you  (+ info)

What are the early signs of appendicitis?

Heya, for about 10 hours now i've had a pain in my right side, where my appendix would be, and have been feeling sick on and off since yesterday evening. It is sensitive to the touch and hurts more when I lay on my side. I don't suppose it is appendicitis, and if it is i'm guessing i'll really know about it by tomorrow, but I thought it would be worth checking whether there are any other signs I should keep an eye on. I have been taking ibuprofen and (don't yell) marijuana, as conventional painkillers have never had much of an effect on me, and the pain is bearable, though it hurts more when I move or walk.
Oh and also, if it is, how long does it take to get as bad as it can get painwise? Just thinking about how long I should give it lol. For example, if in 2 days i'm not in agony but still have an ache can I assume it's probably not appendicitis and I should book an appt. with my regular doctor rather than go to the ER?
Ah, i'll get my sister to try that tomorrow morning, she'll love an excuse to smack me one haha. I'll go to the hospital if the pain becomes unbearable, or to my GP if it continues, but my uni course starts in less that 48 hours and i'm a fresher so I don't want to miss the induction etc, hoping it's just a virus and I can take painkillers for freshers week!

Look out for fever, nausea, and vomiting. You won't be able to stand it if you really had appendicitis. If it gets worse you won't stay home. There are many potential causes of abdominal pain. As a female one should consider gynecological causes, such as an ovarian cyst or ectopic pregancy. Other causes include various gastrointestinal and musculoskeletal etiologies.

I'm a physician. Best of health to you.  (+ info)

Why some people wait until the appendicitis is ruptured?

And why some people still wait to seek medical attention after the appendicitis is rupture? If a patient have acute appendicitis they will have pain at the right iliac fosa and a/w fever. How will a patient with acute appendicitis will feel when the appendix is ruptured?Hope those who had experienced ruptured appendix to share their feelings with me.Thanks in advance.
----------

About 3 years ago, I kept getting unexplained abdominal pain and sickness. This would come and go over a period of around 5 months or so. My doctor could not explain it and kept putting it down to effects of gastroenteritis I had the year before.
In the August, I woke in the early hours of the morning with severe pain in my upper right abdomen. I went to the emergency doctor at the local A&E, and he suggested it was a kidney stone, gave me a shot of morphine for the pain and sent me home. A few hours later, I was back in the A&E as the pain was still severe and had moved down to my lower right abdomen. The town I live in only has a small hospital, so doctor I saw rushed me to a city hospital in an ambulance as she suspected appendicitis.

I was scheduled for surgery as soon as I arrived at the hospital. I had to wait a short while, as the surgeon was already in surgery. He sent me for an ultrasound scan while I waited to see the severity of the appendicitis, and it showed my appendix was close to rupture.
He carried out the surgery, but as my appendix was in such a precarious state, he had to cut in from the left and work across to the right to remove my appendix, because if he had cut me at the site of my appendix, he could have ruptured it.
Had it not been for the surgeon's advise of an ultrasound before surgery, things could have got a lot worse and I may not be here today to tell the tale.

The problem with many illness is that the symptoms mimic other illness, so it can be quite difficult for a doctor to diagnose correctly, especially if they are inexperienced in certain areas.
The emergency doctor I saw was certain it was a kidney stone, yet the second doctor I saw in A&E had no doubts it was appendicitis and acted quickly.

The body is a complex system, so I imagine it is quite easy for doctors to make mistakes and for people to misdiagnose themselves too.
More recently, I saw the doctor about a stiff neck, headache, dizziness and generally feeling unwell. She diagnosed me as having a trapped nerve in my neck, however, two days later, I was in hospital being diagnosed with viral meningitis.

on some occasions, it is easy to make a mistake. However, when it comes to life or death, doctors should look into every possibility, not just pass things off as a virus, attention seeking or stress/depression.  (+ info)

Is the pain of the appendix when you have appendicitis constant?

I might have appendicitis but the pain in my appendix is not constant, it comes and goes. Does this mean that I have appendicitis? I have looked up other symptoms, which I seem to have, but the whole not constant pain thing is a draw back to whether I have it or not in my opinion.

Symptoms

Appendicitis can cause a variety of symptoms that may change over time:

Early on, the most common symptom is an aching pain around your navel that often shifts later to your lower right abdomen.
As the inflammation spreads to nearby tissues, the pain may become sharper and more severe.
Eventually, the pain tends to settle in your lower right abdomen — near your appendix at what's known as McBurney point. This point is about halfway between your navel and the top of your right pelvic bone.

But the location of your pain may vary, depending on your age and the position of your appendix. Young children or pregnant women, especially, may have appendicitis pain in different places.

What makes pain worse
If you apply gentle pressure to the area that hurts, it will feel tender. As you release the pressure, especially if you do it suddenly, appendicitis pain often will feel worse (rebound tenderness). It will also tend to get worse if you cough, walk or make other jarring movements. This is particularly true if the inflamed appendix is touching the peritoneum — the silk-like membrane that lines the inner abdominal wall and enfolds the intestines. The pain may lessen somewhat if you lie on your side and pull your knees up toward your chest.

Symptoms other than pain
In addition to pain, you may have one or more of the following appendicitis symptoms:

Nausea and sometimes vomiting
Loss of appetite
A low-grade fever that starts after other symptoms appear
Constipation
An inability to pass gas
Diarrhea

What are the first symptoms of appendicitis?

I woke up this morning with pain right under my belly button. As the day went on it got more painful. At this moment I have to limp to walk. Cant stand up straight. Hurts when I cough, sneeze or laugh. Its just starting to hurt like a little *!@#$. Do I have appendicitis. Im 15 years old by the way. I also know I should ask my doctor!
----------

Hello...My daughter had the same symptoms...had the operation to remove her appendix. what they did to see if it was her appendix was to press down on the belly and release....the indicator was if it hurt more when they released the pressure than when they applied pressure. I hope it helps.. so you know, my daughter would have died if I had not taken her in  (+ info)

How often do people die of appendicitis?

So my BEST friend has appendicitis and she is going into surgery tonight. I am really freaked out and I need some reasurrence.
----------

With today's medical advance i'll say below 1%. The complications of appendicitis only occur in neglected cases where the swelling appendix ruptured, leaking bacteria rich fecal mass into abdomen cavity...

Don't worry.... i'm sure your best friend will be okay in no time....  (+ info)
