What would be the proper terminology for an Aortic Repair?

I am a nursing student and my patient stated that they had an aortic repair. I am just wondering if there is any other correct terminology when documenting such findings. I am not even sure if there are different types of aortic repairs because they were very vague about it. Any help would be appreciated!
----------

Surely good answers all, however, they are all assuming he meant aortic aneurysm, it could just as easily been his aortic valve that was repaired. Most people would call that a replacement but it's still kind of vague. It can also be refered to as a AAA repair, (abdominal aortic aneurysm). Hope this helps.  (+ info)

Would a lump from an Aortic Anyresum move around?

I have a pulsating, tender lump that moves around bedside my navel. It is usually on the left of my belly button but if I press it, it travels to above my belly button or to the other side of it. This lump causes tenderness and pain mostly on the right side from below my below button to just under my rib cage.

Would a lump from an aortic anyresum be moveable?
I'm only 24.
----------

No aortic aneurysms are not "moveable"...what you describe sounds very much like a hernia...see your doctor who will arrange for you to see the specialist who can fix this for you. Its a relatively simple procedure so do not be worried.  (+ info)

How is a fracture different from a rupture?

I ruptured my right ankle's ligament while coming downstairs. The Doc says its not a fracture, but a rupture. But still he plastered my ankle with POP.

So what is the difference between a fracture and a rupture?
----------

The term 'rupture' is associated with soft tissue, while a fracture (or break) typically refers to harder tissue such as bone. You can rupture a blood vessel or a ligament, but you can't rupture a bone. Similarly you can fracture a bone but you can't fracture a ligament.

The ligament is what connects the bones in your ankle to one another, holding them in place. A fracture of the bone or rupture of the ligament will both feel quite similar and both will likely to be rendered immobile as they heal, hence the cast.  (+ info)

What are the symptoms of a plantar fascia rupture?

I was running yesterday and I felt a tearing sensation on the bottom of my foot and today I can barely walk. I've had plantar fasciitis before, this felt different. How do they treat plantar fascia rupture? Anyone know? Not a lot on the web about it.
----------

If you strain your plantar fascia, it can become inflamed, weak and swollen, making it painful to stand or walk. The pain may be strongest when you first step out of bed in the morning or if you have been standing for long periods of time.
There are lots of different options for healing plantar fasciitis. You can give your feet a rest for a few days and avoid doing activities that make the pain worse. You can also trying icing the area, using an over-the-counter pain reliever and buying shoes with extra support. If your condition worsens, your doctor can give you shots of steroid medication.
If the pain in your foot persists, you should consult your doctor!

In referece to Tetralogy of Fallot, what does aortic overriding mean?

I'm doing an assignment on Tetralogy of Fallot and I need to explain the anatomy of this disease. Could someone please explain to me what aortic overriding mean? Also, I'm not a medical proffessional (this is just my first anatomy course) so explain in plain English would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
----------

Normally aorta is connected to the left ventricle and pulmonary artery to the right ventricle. In Tetralogy of Fallot, there is defect in the interventriclar septum (partition). The aorta over rides the septal defect so that half of aorta is connected to right ventricle and half to left ventricle. So it receives both oxygenated blood and deoxygenated blood (from right ventricle). Hence the babies born with Tetralogy have blue colour due to deoxygenated blood in their general (systemic) circulation.  (+ info)

Is it possible to rupture a blood vessel in your penis?

I am a male and I had sex for the first time last night and when we were done, I noticed a small red circle near the base of my penis. It was the color of blood. It's somewhat diminished today. Did i bruise my penis or rupture a blood vessel or something? Perhaps the pressure on it from having sex did it?
EDIT: I should provide more information I am 21 years old and a senior in college. I held out for a long time I know lol. I am also a gay man, so I didn't bump against any "vaginal wall" but it could have been thrusting into the anal cavity to hard perhaps???? Any thoughts?
OMG I think it's a hickey!!!! That would make sense since he did suck pretty hard for foreplay!
Edit: Engaged... And you can just go somewhere I can't say on yahoo... Seriously. We were also not made to fly in airplanes or travel on wheels but we do anyway. Take your homophobia somewhere else and attempt to come out of the closet sometime.
----------

This is a tough one. I could suspect a hickey, a rupture, or disease. To get to the bottom of this would require too many personal questions that should not be asked or answered here. If you're still in school, visit the school nurse (that person is NOT going to laugh at you or be judgmental) or the health center if you're in college. If you're an adult on your own, then ask a friend of yours who is a nurse, or see a doctor.  (+ info)

Advice for a 92 yr old female just diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm?

My grandmother went in because they discovered a blood clot in her leg and had surgery to put a filter in to prevent and future clots from going to her heart or lungs. While she was there they discovered an aortic aneurysm and she has decided that "whatever will be will be". I can't say that I blame her but I would like to keep her around as long as she is comfortable so if anyone has any tips on what to do to accomplish that they would be greatly appreciated.
----------

Well, here's some facts:
1. Technically, they can 'fix her'. However, at that age, it's riskier, not to mention the other complications she's had.
2. When it bursts, if it bursts, it will be a matter of minutes.
3. It may never burst.
Honestly, as far as how long she lasts, it's a toss up. Her doctor,I'm sure, has told you that.
As for respecting her wishes and keeping her comfortable, as far as I know, if she's in pain, it probably won't be much longer... if she's not, then keeping her comfortable is easy. Now, for keeping her alive...move her gently, she probably shouldn't walk around much, basically anything that keeps her blood pressure down and her heart rate normal is the key.
I wish you both well, and I hope that she has a restful time, however long that may be.  (+ info)

When is the most likely time for an ectopic pregnancy to rupture?

My doctor is ordering an ultrasound to rule out ectopic pregnancy in the next day or so. At what point in a pregnanyc is an ectopic pregnancy most likely to rupture? Should I go to the hospital tonight to see?
----------

Between six to eight weeks pregnant is when the fallopian tube tends to rupture.  (+ info)

What is the cause of an aortic aneurysm?

Do you know how aortic aneurysms are caused? are there types of foods to avoid so that one does not develop this?
----------

Not everything is known about how aortic aneurysms are caused, but cholesterol plays a role and hypertension plays a role (in rare cases, infections or genetic problems like Marfan's syndrome can also cause them). Food is definitely related to both cholesterol and blood pressure. A low-fat, plant-based diet should bring down both of these things. Avoid fatty foods and animal products in general (plant foods have no cholesterol).

Here is a web site with more information about aortic aneurysms and how to prevent them:
