can lifting repeatedly cause an aortic aneurysm to rupture?

lifting between 5 and 40 lbs and up to 70 lbs cause anything to happen to aneurysm. any medical proof would help in a claim I am fighting with the Veteran administration. thanks
----------

I don't have any proof that it could but I am sure it will for the simple fact that your blood pressure increases when you lift heavy things . You need to get that taken of asap , even if they don't approve your claim it's your life it can burst at anytime . Good luck   (+ info)

How do you deal with an ascending aortic aneurysm?

My sister has an ascending aortic aneurysm measuring 5.3 cm. It hasn't grown over the past year. She quit smoking when it was diagnosed, but is lethargic, overweight, and suffering from anxiety. She put off surgery in order to loose weight and because the aneurysm hasn't grown. But she panics whenever she experiences an "odd" feeling. I don't know how to help her.
----------

D...she needs this surgery 5.3 is big enough...I had mine fixed at 5.0 and I also had my aortic valve replaced at the same time. Do you guys have Bicuspid aortic valves...its a common occurence to have these 2 things together. The bicuspid foundation has a lot of info about ascending aortic aneurysms.

Here are a couple of web sites that will give you a lot of info you can trust.

http://www.bicuspidfoundation.com/
http://www.valvereplacement.com/

A valve replacement may not be actually what she is needing at the moment but many people on there had both surgeries done (like me) at the same time to save another surgery in 10 yrs time to fix the valve. It will give you both a lot of useful info to think about.

I was not at all scared when I went for my surgery, I was actually excited to get that aneurysm gone so I wasnt in danger from it.  (+ info)

What is the difference between an aneurysm and an embolism?

Is the difference where they happen (head versus body), between hitting a vein or artery, or how serious the damage is? Can a cerebral accident be both an aneurysm and an embolism at the same time?
----------

Yes. An aneurism is the ballooning of a blood vessel, and it can rupture due to a weak vessel wall.

An embolism is a clot floating around in the bloodstream, and is critical when it reaches either the brain or the heart. Elsewhere, it may cause a stroke/paralysis.  (+ info)

How does an aneurysm in the brain form?

I've been lifting weights for the past two days and I tend to hold my breath and lift (straining, I know) and I'm pretty scared an aneurysm might form. How does it form? Im onyl 12 years old.
----------

Aneurysms are usually congenital meaning a person is born with it. They are usually not discovered until later in life. Trauma can also cause aneurysm formation.

what is the latest surgical procedure for an aneurysm of the ascending aorta?

I have been detected with an aneurysm of the ascending aorta in 2000 A.D.I am now 64 yrs old. The latest catscan(helical) shows the aneurysm has increased in size(to 60 mm). What is the safest surgical procedure?Has a laparospic procedure been developed for aortic aneurysms?
----------

There is a site that deals with medical issues called Medline. If you type this word (Medline) in Google or Yahoo and search you will probably get the website address. I did and found that in 2005 the FDA approved a treatment for your condition that in effect bypasses the weakness similar to a heart bypass. If you enter aortic surgery as a search word on the medline home page I am certain you will probably see the same article. Be certain to ask your physician if he/she is aware of this treatment, and if t has been successful. Good luck.  (+ info)

What is the difference between brain aneurysm and a stroke ?

I had a leaking brain aneurysm while my father in law had a stroke. Mine was treated with endovascular coiling and it has not caused any deficits(physical or mental) thus far. But I still don't know what should I tell if I am asked - Stroke is generally understood but many cannot relate to brain aneurysm.
----------

PathologyGeek is more correct. There are two kinds of stroke: 1) hemorrhagic (due to bleeding) which is most often caused by a ruptured brain aneurysm, and 2) embolic (due to a clot or other blood flow blocking debris) which usually happens when a blood clot blocks an artery in the brain. In both cases, a part of the brain that was being supplied with blood from either the artery with the aneurysm or had the clot is not getting the blood (and oxygen) that it needs. As described by both previous posters, an aneurysm is a bulge in an artery where it has a weakened wall. So, an aneurysm that leaks results in a hemorrhagic stroke. So, you could say that you have had both - an aneurysm that when it leaked, caused a stroke. Most strokes are embolic. So without further information about your father, it was likely that he had an embolic stroke. Clots that cause an embolic stroke are most likely to have come from the heart or the neck (carotid artery).  (+ info)

What is the chance of surviving a brain aneurysm?

My cousin just had a brain aneurysm about 3 hours ago. He was in bed when he woke up screaming. My aunt and uncle rushed into his room to find him having a seizure. He hasn't regained consciousness since his seizure. He is 6 years old. What are the chances he will make it?
Thanks ironchain, I really appreciate it.
Thanks N.
----------

If he got immediate care, the chances are strong that he will survive. I knew a school mate whose dad had an aneurysm many years ago, and he is still alive, and he is an older man. Usually the younger you are, the better off you are.  (+ info)

How fast can an aneurysm grow?

Is it possible for an abdominal aneurysm to appear and grow within a few weeks?
----------

Rarely.

Most aneurysms start slowly and grow slowly, over years.

We usually start talking about repairing an aneurysm when it exceeds 5cm in size, or if it starts growing more than 0.5cm/year.

Most aneurysms are found while a doctor is looking for something else. Anyone (particularly men) with a history of high BP and smoking or a family Hx of aneurysm should have an abdominal ultrasound once they reach age 50.  (+ info)
