My mom has a hilar mass on lung and adrenal gland issues.?

My mom is 64, nonsmoker, and they've found a 2 inch hilar mass on her lung. Does lung cancer metastasize in the adrenal glands? I'm really worried.

Do you know anything about an adrenal gland tumor?

I know it caused low potassium level, caused muscle problems and required my sister to go on some heart medication...
Is surgery the only option to cure the problem or did anyone have success with meds to treat the tumor..
thanks for your input....

I know you have two adrenal glands, so it is perfectly safe for one to be removed (just like a kidney, in fact they rest on the kidneys). The Oncologist in charge of the case would be best to ask specific questions about this. But do not panic, a simple tumor can be removed and even if it is cancer and they remove the adrenal gland she has another one.  (+ info)

A close relative of mine was diagnosed with colon cancer, adenocarcinoma, spread through five different organs. He chose to not have any treatment and he lived about four months before passing away.

Have you or anyone you know been treated either surgically or medically for a tumor on the adrenal gland?

If so can you tell me what symptoms occurred and how the treatment went?

Thanks!!

I think that is what my brother had, he had high blood pressure for years and was on about 12 medications for it and it wasn't working. So finally they did tests and found the tumor and surgically removed it a few years ago. Now he is on one pill for blood pressure and is doing well.  (+ info)

What would cause one adrenal gland to not form, in utero?

I wish there was more information here such as how this information was found - via testing, via imaging?
I would think that no body is perfect and the body has two of things to help have redundancies built in. When something does not form, it is often called a birth defect or can be genetic but it does not sound like that was offered. CAH or congenital adrenal hyperplasia is frequently found in children where adrenal(s) are underdeveloped at birth.
Supportive replacement steroids are necessary, usually for life.
The Magic Foundation is a good resource for children with growth or rare disorders like this. They have information and can help find doctors.
As well, look for addison's sites as they manage life on steroids as well. A new medication is coming out soon - duocort - which will help manage the side effects. Too much steroid and too little are both bad. Too little can be immediately life threatening. Too much can break down bone, eyes, muscles (including the heart) and lower the immune system and cause diabetes and a lot more problems. I had my adrenals removed due to Cushing's disease which is too much cortisol.

Does any medical expert know the repercussions of having one adrenal gland removed?

I had one adrenal gland removed in November, 1996, because of hyperaldostrone syndrome. It didn't seem to bother me until now. In 2005 I kept getting sinus headaches that didn't go away. Since July, 2006 I have had 2 major colds or flu that lasted 2 weeks, and all together four coughing attacks. I get rashes that don't go away and had to take methypredisone. When I get cuts it takes forever to heal, and I don't have any energy and basically feel run-down all the time. I have brought this up to doctors but they always say something would have happened within 3 months of the surgery. I don't have high glucose, anemia or other things that could make me tired. Please help me......I am so tired........

Get your prolactin levels checked
your corticosteroid levels
your addrenalin levels

I think that you mean "hyperaldosterone"

To increase your energy levels you might want to feed your addrenalin which will also help you mend and breathe better.

To do this vitamin C can help.

In particular i use vitamin C from pure citric acid, i make a drink from it that is a lot like orange juice which also has citric acid in it.
The recommended daily allowance of vitamin C is 1 gram. Exceeding this doesn't help much but not enough can be part of your problem.

Vitamin C is generally ascorbic acid these days but times gone by it was sometimes citric acid, both are vitamin C. I think that citric is better for you for personal reasons but either should help.

Vitamin C is a precursor for the neurotransmitter dopamine and dopamine is a precursor for the neurotransmitter addrenalin of course you can suppliment your addrenalin directly but it's generally illegal to use most drugs that are addrenalin agonists so i recommend you build your own with your own brain and kidneys from the building blocks of citric acid vitamin C besides your own is much better for you and does not cause the corticosteroid reaction to compensate for a sudden glut of it adminstered artificially.

Ob1

ps 1/2 gram of citric acid with two cubes of raw cane sugar in it in non chlorinated water makes a pleasant orange juice like drink.  (+ info)

Has anyone had a rare adrenal gland tumor?

It starts with a Ph?
----------

Each person has two adrenal glands, one located on top of each of the body’s two kidneys. These glands are important to the body’s endocrine (hormonal) system. Each adrenal gland has two main parts, which function separately:

Adrenal cortex. The outer part of the adrenal gland is called the cortex. The adrenal cortex makes three hormones: cortisol, aldosterone, and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). These hormones carefully control metabolism and body characteristics, such as hair growth and body shape.
