What can I put in a patient's nursing careplan who has abdominal pain which is not yet diagnosed?

I need to make a nursing careplan for an 80 year old patient who has undiagnosed abdominal pain. What are some nursing focuses, actions and rationales that I can put in my careplan?
----------

Focus on any distention, I&O, diet, BM's. Actions would be palpate the abdomen, listen for bowel sounds in all 4 quadrants v/s etc. The rationals are self explanatory. why you did all the actions you did. Don't forget to ask about their pain level. Thats all I can give you without writing out a complete Care plan. Good Luck..!!  (+ info)

Is acupuncture an effective way to cure abdominal pain?

My father has pancreatic cancer and seems to be in a lot of abdominal pain. The medication that has been prescribed for him doesn't seem to be working. I have been reading about how acupuncture has been known to relieve some of it. Do you have any success or horror stories regarding this?
----------

First of all let me say that I know you're in allot of pain seeing your dad like this.I know my dad was my hero and you sound the same.Acupuncture works by the person inserting the needles into different receptors in the body.I don't see why they wouldn't be able to relieve the pain by doing this in the right areas. The problem being is that as soon as the treatment is over,I'm not sure how long the relief would last. You'd have to ask someone that specializes in this to find out.Is your dad seeing a pain management doctor. You don't mention what stage he's in, or what he's taking but unfortunately the pain will get worse.I've never heard of acupuncture being used for any type of cancer pain.  (+ info)

What would cause a localized abdominal pain?

I have a sharp, localized abdominal pain for the past 2 days. It is on the right side, just slightly underneath my stomach. I have no other symptoms. What could it be? What's the best course of treatment?
----------

Now if it's under your stomach(rib cage area) that could be many things., if it's under your belly button on the lower right, it is most likely your appendix. Go check, mine burst and you definitely DO NOT want to go through that.
It could very well be life threatening if you don't act on it NOW
TAKE CARE and BEST OF LUCK  (+ info)

How do I deal with abdominal pain?

I get this sudden bad pain in my abdominal area sometimes. I'll have to stop what I'm doing sometimes because it's so bad. How do I deal with it?
----------

Are you having regular bowel movements? If not then you could be constipated. You need to see your doctor for one. If it happens to be your colon then look into getting a fibre supplement to help things along as well as a good laxative. Good luck  (+ info)

I woke up because of abdominal pain and I went to restroom, my urine is very very dark I think it may blood?

Ive had abdominal pain since yesterday night, and this morning I basically peed blood, and if its not blood, then its very dark and kind of brownish, I know it sounds disgusting but Im really worried, does anyone know a reason why this may be happening?
----------

Sounds like you may have a bad urinary tract infection that may be spreading to your kidneys. Any color in the urine other than clear to light yellow should be taken into consideration for things of this nature but not limited to. You will most certainly have to go to your doctors so they can give you the right referral to a specialist. More than likely it will be a urologist because of the reasons you gave. I had a similar experience and had to have a minor procedure to check for possible kidney failure and damage. I was told that I have to make sure that I intake adequate amounts of water and to stay away from liquids with dye in them like colored soda, tea, and junk juices. After taking heed to the urologists orders, two weeks of meds and routine visits, I felt much better. I still struggle with making sure I drink plenty of h2o and best to believe my kidneys are sure to remind me. It's a process of becoming self disciplined that's all however, i strongly encourage you to consider my advice. Be Blessed  (+ info)

Is it normal to have abdominal pain after taking Sprintec birth control pills?

I just started taking birth control 2 1/2 months ago. I have had abdominal pain 1 month after taking it. On the 2 1/2 month later I quit and I still have abdominal pain. I took a pregnancy test, but I don't think its accurate until the day of my missed period. It was negative. Is this normal, because birth control pills seem to be making my life miserable.
I am taking Sprintec

No. Go to the doctor and get on another type of pill or method. Abdominal pain can be a sign of bad side effects. I'd on Mononessa and the first couple weeks I felt nausea but now i'm completely fine.  (+ info)

Pain acute...maybe yes, maybe no same for pain chronic

Nutrition, less then required...probably

Actions would center on pain control, dehydration, n/v control, anemia, malnutrition, check WBC for elevation and go for infection if needed or > risk for infection due to poor intake, and of course and ALWAYS safety for any of the reasons listed above  (+ info)

Why is my abdominal pain relieved by putting pressure on it?

I have abdominal pain that is centered in the navel area and mildly radiates to the left side and when my cat (who weighs 14 pounds, and yes kitty is overweight and currently on diet food supervised by a vet) sits on my abdomen the pain goes away. Does anyone have any idea of what may be causing this pain?? Does anyone out there experience the same thing??
----------

Well generally, pain which is relieved by pressure suggests a peritonits. That is, inflammation of the peritoneum, or 'membrane', that covers your abdominal wall and internal organs. When the peritoneum is inflamed, it is highly sensitive to any pressure or irritation. When you push down on the abdomen, this pushes a bit of organ away from the peritoneum, relieving the pressure. A sign doctors look for is 'rebound tenderness' when the pain is elicited when removing the pressure. The doctor pushes on the abdomen, which may not be painful, the doctor then takes their hand away, the organ (which had been depressed) when released, moves back and scrapes along the inflammed peritoneum causing intense pain.

The key question for you is, is the pain worse when kitty jumps off?

This is the most important diagnosis a doctor would consider as patients with peritonitis are quite seriously ill. If you are unwell (temperature, vomiting) go see a doctor.

There are other possible reasons however, pain could be simple constipation. The pressure may have helped move the compacted faeces along and thus relieved the pain. If you are otherwise well I would suspect this is the case.  (+ info)
