1/5. Bilateral naevus of Ota: a rare manifestation in a Caucasian.The naevus of Ota (naevus fusculocoeruleus ophthalmomaxillaris) was first described by the Japanese dermatologist M. T. Ota in 1939. It has a reported incidence of 0.2% to 1% in the Japanese population. It usually occurs in the skin innervated by the first or second branch of the trigeminal nerve. The naevus comprises dermal melanocytes and is congenital or acquired during adolescence. Commonly associated lesions include scleral melanocytosis and other ocular manifestations as well as lesions of the tympanic membrane, oral and intranasal mucosa and leptomeninges. Diseases associated with Ota's naevus in rare cases are open-angle glaucomas and melanoma. The naevus of Ota in Europeans is a rare manifestation. Benign mixed epithelial and stromal tumor of the kidney: imaging findings.Three cases of mixed epithelial and stromal tumor of the kidney with their imaging findings are described; these cases have not been reported previously in the radiology literature. This benign tumor contains epithelial and spindle cell stromal components and arises exclusively in adult women. Endometrial carcinosarcoma with osteoclast-like giant cells.We encountered a case of endometrial cancer with a poorly differentiated epithelial component, accompanied by a compact proliferation of atypical spindle cells and osteoclast-like giant cells. Immunohistochemically, the epithelial component was EMA and prekeratin positive with vimentin-positive spindle cells, whereas the osteoclast-like giant cells were strongly immunoreactive for CD68. Esophageal rhabdomyosarcoma: report of a case diagnosed by imprint cytology.BACKGROUND: Primary esophageal rhabdomyosarcoma (PER) is a very rare neoplasm with only 15 cases reported in the literature. Of those, only 1 case underwent a preoperative cytologic evaluation. We report a case of PER with diagnosis by imprint cytology. CASE: A 55-year-old woman presented with dysphagia of 2 months' duration associated with fatigue and weight loss. Clinical and diagnostic imaging investigations revealed a large, submucosal mass lesion located in the lower part of the esophagus. A bite biopsy of the esophageal mass was performed under esophagoscopy. Two imprint smears were made from the biopsied tissue fragment and stained with the May-Grunwald-Giemsa method. The smears revealed abundant, pleomorphic, malignant cells with basophilic cytoplasm. Some spindle-shaped cancer cells showed intracytoplasmic cross-striations, indicating a pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma, as confirmed by histologic and immunohistochemical studies of the biopsied tumor tissue and resected tumor. 5/5. Imaging findings of solitary fibrous tumor of the prostate: a case report.The imaging findings of a solitary fibrous tumor of the prostate are presented. A 35-year-old male presented with urinary retention and was found on transrectal ultrasonography to have a hypoechoic tumor of the prostate, measuring 5.5 cm in size. magnetic resonance imaging on, the tumor showed low signal intensity on T1-weighted images and heterogeneous mixed signal intensity on T2-weighted images. gadolinium-enhanced dynamic study showed gradual enhancement from the periphery to the center, and the enhancement is sustained. On immunohistochemistry, the spindle cells of the tumor showed positive staining for CD34 and bcl-2. Although the tumor was labeled as a low-grade malignancy on account of a low mitotic index (MIB-1 index) of about 5%, the patient developed local recurrence of the tumor with bladder wall invasion 12 months later.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 0.10102530431254keywords = spindle cell, spindle (Clic here for more details about this article) |
