11/17. A technique for surgical correction of fallopian tube prolapse.

prolapse of the fallopian tube is a rare complication of gynecologic surgery. Five cases were operated upon in the authors' hospital within the past year. A summary of these cases is given. One of the cases, which required a second operative procedure, is discussed. The surgical technique for complete excision of the prolapsed fallopian tube via the vagina is described.

12/17. Prolapsed fallopian tube masquerading as adenocarcinoma of the vagina in a postmenopausal woman.

A postmenopausal patient with vaginal prolapse of the fallopian tube presented with an erroneous diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of the vaginal apex. Failure to consider fallopian tube prolapse in the differential diagnosis of vaginal adenocarcinoma led to an upper vaginectomy and subsequent complication of a ureterovaginal fistula. The differential diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of the vagina in the postmenopausal patient and the management of vaginal prolapse of the fallopian tube are discussed.

13/17. Modifications of the endosalpinx at S.E.M. in a case of post-hysterectomy tubal prolapse.

One case of left fallopian tube prolapse following vaginal hysterectomy is reported. Modifications of the endosalpinx at S.E.M. show a mucosa relatively resistant to biological assault.

14/17. Exfoliative cytology in a case of prolapsed fallopian tube.

The appearances of cells from a prolapsed fallopian tube found in a vault smear are described, and the differential diagnosis is discussed. It is concluded that if the distinctive appearance of the small, regular and occasionally ciliated columnar cells with granular nuclei and prominent nucleoli are recognized, it may be possible for the cytologist to help the clinician differentiate the unusual condition of a prolapsed fallopian tube from other vault "granulations". prolapse of the fallopian tube is a rare complication of hysterectomy. This is a report of the cytologic findings in a vault smear from a patient suffering from this complication.

16/17. Posthysterectomy fallopian tube herniation. A report of two cases.

BACKGROUND: Tubal herniation as a complication of hysterectomy is a rare phenomenon, markedly more frequent after vaginal hysterectomy. With the increasing use of the vaginal route, the ratio between tubal herniation after vaginal versus abdominal hysterectomy may exceed 3:1. CASE: We report two cases of tubal herniation into the vagina, one after vaginal hysterectomy and the other after total abdominal hysterectomy, in two patients, aged 36 and 37 years. CONCLUSION: A tubal prolapse in the vagina may be considered a hernia and occurs only if a communication exists between the peritoneal cavity and vaginal canal. It can be an early or late prolapse. Symptoms consist almost exclusively of persistent blood loss and/or leukorrhea, dyspareunia and chronic pelvic pain. Whether the abdominal or vaginal approach should be used in surgical correction of prolapsed tubes must be decided in each case according to the patient's individual characteristics. Both histologic pictures described merit careful attention, distinguishing between the terminal tubal segment and the more cranial tract (above the vaginal strangulation).

17/17. Management of tubal prolapse after hysterectomy.

Uterine tube prolapse into the vaginal vault is an uncommon complication after hysterectomy, and our 6 patients bring to 90 the number of cases reported in the literature. Symptoms consist almost exclusively of vaginal bloody discharge and/or leukorrhea, persistent pelvic pain, and dyspareunia. Surgical treatment must be individualized according to the patient's symptoms. In our series, sexually active women with pelvic pain and dyspareunia had the best outcome when a combined laparoscopic and vaginal approach was used.
