2/48. Eosinophilic meningitis (angiostrongylosis): a probable case.

A probable case of eosinophilic meningitis is described. This report is thought to be the first of a case of this disorder diagnosed in new south wales, although infection probably occurred in queensland. The life cycle of the parasite angiostrongylus cantonensis is outlined briefly and the clinical manifestations of this disease are discussed. Treatment with thiabendazole seems to have been beneficial to this patient.

3/48. A case of expectoration of gnathostoma spinigerum in thailand.

A living adult male gnathostoma spinigerum was coughed up by a 33-year-old Thai married woman. The expectorated worm may have emerged from the pharynx. Pork is a possible source of infection in this case. The significant symptoms of her illness were migratory joint pain, chest pain, palpitation, and itchy throat, progressively. She has never had swellings.

5/48. Neural larva migrans caused by the raccoon roundworm Baylisascaris procyonis.

Baylisascaris procyonis, the common raccoon roundworm, is a rare cause of devastating or fatal neural larva migrans in infants and young children. We describe the clinical features of two children from suburban chicago who developed severe, nonfatal B. procyonis neural larva migrans. Despite treatment with albendazole and high dose corticosteroids, both patients are neurologically devastated. In many regions of north america, large populations of raccoons with high rates of endemic B. procyonis infection live in proximity to humans, which suggests that the risk of human infection is probably substantial. In the absence of effective treatment, prevention of infection remains the most important public health strategy.

6/48. Abdominal angiostrongyliasis mimicking acute appendicitis and Meckel's diverticulum: report of a case in the united states and review.

Two cases of children with abdominal angiostrongyliasis acquired within the united states are reported. The index patient presented with complaints consistent with appendicitis, but at surgery findings were thought to represent an atypical presentation of a Meckel's diverticulum. His sole sibling (sister) had eosinophilia, no other intestinal parasites on fecal examination, and a positive serologic test, all suggesting infection with Angiostrongylus costaricensis. Because infections with this parasite are not known to result from human-to-human transmission, his sister's infection represents a second case.

7/48. An unusual parasitological finding in a subcutaneous mammary nodule.

While examining some histological sections of a clinically suspected neoplastic nodule in a woman's breast, sections of dirofilaria repens were noted in the same nodule along with sections of a different nematode. The latter appeared to be a specimen possibly belonging to the genus Anatrichosoma (family Trichosomoididae), a parasitic group of helminths rarely reported in humans. In view of the diagnostic interest in an exceptional event, such as a double parasitic infection in the same nodule, we report the details of the case and the morphological findings.

8/48. Mammomonogamus roundworm (nematoda: Syngamidae) recovered from the duodenum of a Thai patient: a first and unusual case originating in thailand.

A pair of Mammomonogamus laryngeus roundworms in copula was recovered from the duodenum of a 72-year-old male Thai patient from Kanchanaburi Province. eggs were also found in the stool of the patient. This is the first case of Mammomonogamus infection originating in thailand, as the previous two reports from thailand attributed the infection as originating in malaysia. The occurrence of adult worms in the duodenum is unusual and differs from previous findings in the larynx, posterior pharynx, tracheal wall and bronchi. This adds a new dimension to the manifestation of the infection.
