1/3. Anesthetic management of a parturient with myotonia dystrophica: a case report.

We report the case of a 22-year-old parturient with myotonia dystrophica. She underwent two separate intraabdominal surgical procedures in one day, both under lumbar epidural anaesthesia. Management was directed toward prevention of shivering, a known trigger of myotonic crises. Measures used included warm ambient atmosphere, warmed IV fluids, warming blankets and administration of epidural sufentanil, an opioid recently ascribed as an inhibitor of shivering in parturients.

2/3. Case report: pulmonary oedema secondary to laryngospasm following general anaesthesia.

The development of pulmonary oedema following the relief of upper airway obstruction has been reported in a wide range of conditions including post-anaesthetic laryngospasm. Radiologists should be aware of this condition as a complication of general anaesthesia.

3/3. appendectomy under local anaesthesia following conscious pain mapping with microlaparoscopy.

The appendix is an under-appreciated source of chronic pelvic pain. Laparoscopic evaluation of the appendix is limited without intra-operative patient feedback on the presence and absence of pain. New techniques using local anaesthesia with conscious sedation have enabled us to perform operative laparoscopic surgery while the patient is awake. We report the first two cases of microlaparoscopic appendectomies performed under local anaesthesia with conscious sedation following diagnosis obtained during conscious pain mapping.
